The Province of Florence (Italian: Provincia di Firenze) is a province in the Tuscany region of Italy. It has an area of 3,514 sq. km and a population of 933,860 (2001) in 44 comuni.
Much of the province lies in the plain of the Arno river and has thus become an exurban sprawl around the city of Florence. The northeastern part of the province, in the Apennines, remains less developed.
The city or comune of Florence is the capital both of the Province and the Region of Tuscany; particular places of beauty or interest in the province include Barberino Val d'Elsa, Fiesole, Greve in Chianti and Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.
